ARKANSAS HIGHWAY POLICE SEIZE DRUG SHIPMENT

LITTLE ROCK (2-20) Officers from the Arkansas Highway Police Division of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) have uncovered a significant shipment of illegal drugs, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers.

On Friday, February 16, 2007, a tractor-trailer rig was stopped at the Highway Police station on Interstate 40 at Alma.  During an inspection of the truck, officers from the Arkansas Highway Police discovered several bundles of cocaine weighing approximately 110 pounds and valued at approximately $1.5 million.

The driver was identified as Alejandro Garcia, age 31, of Los Angeles, California.  It is believed the truck, transporting a load of aquarium supplies, was traveling from California to New York.  Garcia and a passenger identified as Eliceo Acosta, 29, of Pomona, California, were arrested at the scene for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver and are being held with no bond in the Crawford County Detention Center.  Both men are scheduled for arraignment in circuit court in Alma on February 21, 2007.
