ARKANSAS HIGHWAY POLICE SEIZE ANOTHER DRUG SHIPMENT

LITTLE ROCK (6-7) Officers from the Arkansas Highway Police Division of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) have uncovered another shipment of illegal drugs, according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers.

On Thursday, June 7, 2007, a tractor-trailer rig was stopped at the Guernsey Highway Police Station on Interstate 30 in Hempstead County.  During an inspection of the truck, officers from the Arkansas Highway Police discovered several bundles of marijuana weighing approximately 1,018 pounds with a street value estimated at over $760,000.

The driver was identified as Bernardo Ruiz, age 35, of Gordon, Texas.  It is believed the truck, transporting a load of empty racks, was traveling from Texas to Ohio.  Ruiz was arrested at the scene for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver.  He is being held at the Hempstead County Detention Center and is scheduled for arraignment in Hempstead County Court on Friday, June 8, 2007.
