AHTD ANNOUNCES FEDERAL FUNDING FOR RECREATIONAL TRAILS PROGRAM


    LITTLE ROCK (12-3) 

     The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) has announced the award of funding to applicants for “Recreational Trails Program” projects in Arkansas , according to AHTD Director Dan Flowers.  The program is a Federally-funded initiative of the 2005 Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU).

     “This program is directed toward developing and maintaining trails for recreational purposes throughout the state,” said Flowers.  “We selected 26 projects to receive $1.3 million in funding.  The program was very competitive.  We received 50 applications requesting over $3.5 million.”

     The AHTD will now work with successful applicants to develop their projects and see them through completion.  The Department hopes to be able to open another solicitation for applications in April of this year.
