LITTLE ROCK (6-4) 

     Officers from the Arkansas Highway Police Division (AHP) of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) have recently uncovered three different shipments of illegal drugs, according to AHP Chief Ron Burks.

     On June 2, 2008, a tractor-trailer rig was stopped at the Alma Highway Police Station on Interstate 40 in Crawford County .  During an inspection of the truck, officers from the Arkansas Highway Police discovered four bundles of marijuana weighing approximately 80 pounds with an estimated street value of $96,000.

     The driver was identified as Leighton Williams, age 24, of Lauderhill , Florida .  It is believed the truck, transporting a wrecker lift, was traveling from Phoenix , Arizona , to Miami , Florida .  Williams was arrested at the scene for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver. 

     On May 25, 2008, a tractor-trailer rig was stopped on Interstate 40 in Crawford County .  Officers found 28 bundles of marijuana weighing approximately 82 pounds with an estimated street value of $98,400.

     The driver was identified as James Francis Kearney, age 37, of El Paso , Texas .  Kearney was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver.       

     On May 24, 2008, a truck was stopped on Interstate 40 in Crawford County for a traffic violation.  Upon inspection, officers discovered two cardboard boxes containing approximately 100 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $120,000.

     The driver of the third truck was identified as Omar Alcazar, age 34, of Lennox , California .  It is believed the truck was traveling from Gardena , California , to Freeport , New York .  Alcazar was arrested at the scene for possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver.

     All three drivers are being held at the Crawford County Detention Center .
